Who are "the poor?"
There appears to be two kinds of poor people in the world:
| Does the Bible make a distinction in poor people? Indeed it does ... |
| (1 Tim 5:3 KJV) Honour widows that are
widows indeed. (1 Tim 5:4 KJV) But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to show piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God. (1 Tim 5:5 KJV) Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day. (1 Tim 5:6 KJV) But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.

| (Deu 14:28 KJV) At the end of three years
thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase
the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates: (Deu 14:29 KJV) And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest. (Deu 26:12 KJV) When thou hast made an end of tithing all the tithes of thine increase the third year, which is the year of tithing, and hast given it unto the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled; | 1Co
16:1-2 KJVR Now concerning the collection for
the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia,
even so do ye. (2) Upon the first day
of the week let every one of you lay
by him in store, as God
hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. What was the collection for? Rom 15:26 KJVR For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem. Contrast this with todays collections.

| (James 2:5 KJV) Hearken, my beloved
brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich
in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised
to them that love him? (James 2:6 KJV) But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? also:

7:1-5 KJVR Judge not,
that ye be
not judged. (2)
For with what
judgment ye judge,
ye shall be
judged: and with
what measure
ye mete, it
shall be measured
to you again. (3) And
why beholdest
thou the mote
that is in
thy brother's
eye, but considerest
not the beam
that is
in thine own
eye? (4) Or
how wilt thou
say to thy
brother, Let
me pull out the
mote out of thine
eye; and, behold,
a beam is
in thine own
eye? (5) Thou
hypocrite, first
cast out the
beam out of
thine own eye;
and then shalt
thou see clearly
to cast out the
mote out of thy
brother's eye.
Joh 7:24 KJVR Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
