1. Preterist theory: All of Revelation has been fulfilled in the past.

2. Historical theory: Fulfillment of Revelation is going on in history, and Revelation is the prophetic history of the church, according to this theory.

3. Historical-spiritual theory: This theory is a refinement of the historical theory and was advanced by Sir William Ramsay. It states that the two beasts are Imperial and Provincial Rome. Revelation has been largely fulfilled and there are spiritual lessons for the church today. Amillennialism, for the most part, has adopted this view. 

4. Futurist theory: This theory holds that the Book of Revelation is primarily prophetic and yet future, especially from Revelation 4 on to the end of the book. This is the view of all premillennialists.

1:1 This is the Revelation (singular) of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things which must happen soon, which he sent and made known by his angel  (Rev 22:16)  to his servant, John, 1:2 who testified to God’s word, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, about everything that he saw.

1:3 Blessed is he who reads (the Lector proclaims Acts 13:27, 2Co 3:14) and those who hear (the audience) the words of the prophecy, and keep the things that are written in it, for the time is at hand.

1:4 John, to the seven assemblies that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from God, who is and who was and who is to come; and from the seven Spirits (see addendum) who are before his throne; 1:5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth (Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth. (Psa 89:27 KJVR)). To him who loves us, and washed us from our sins by his blood; 1:6 and he made us to be a Kingdom, priests (Exodus 19:6; Isaiah 61:6 1 Peter 2:5&9) to his God and Father; to him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.  (Joh 15:14-15 KJVR)

In some cases, the servants were actually rather exalted persons.  Note particularly the account in 2 Kg 18.13-37 where the Rabshakeh speaks in the name of the king of Assyria issuing threats and promises in his name. 

Colin Powell, [when he was Secretary of State and therefore third in the line of succession to the President should something happen:  (1) Vice President (2) Speaker of the House of Representatives (3) Secretary of State,. stated on multiple occasions,]  when asked whether he would continue in his position, said "I serve at the pleasure of the President."

   Undoubtedly the background for the concept of being the Lord's  slave or servant is to be found in the Old Testament scriptures. For a  Jew this concept did not connote drudgery, but honor and privilege. It  was used of national Israel at times (Isa 43:10), but was especially  associated with famous OT personalities, including such great men as  Moses (Josh 14:7), David (Ps 89:3; cf. 2Sam 7:5, 8) and Elijah (2Kgs  10:10); all these men were "servants (or slaves) of the Lord."   Click for Reference

"God, who is and who was and who is to come" (And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. (Exo 3:14 KJVR))  This is similar to: "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever." (Heb 13:8 KJVR)

washed us from our sins by his blood;   William Barclay sees 'washed' as 'to set free'  and 'in His own blood' as 'at the price of' which is expressed in  "and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood" (Rev 5:9) that is, Jesus has set us free from our sins at the cost of His blood. Gal 3:13 & 4:5  redeemed from the curse of the Law.

Ephesus

2:1 “To the angel of the assembly in Ephesus write:

A similar use of 'false,' Gal 2:4 KJVR And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:

These false apostles are not impostors claiming to be be one of the Twelve (i.e., Peter , James or John.)  They are claiming to be in a different category of apostles.  The word is used of at least five different categories.

Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. (1Co 16:1 KJVR)

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. (Mat 25:40 KJVR)

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. (Jas 1:27 KJVR)

Smyrna

Be faithful to death, and I will give you the crown of life. 2:11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. He who overcomes won’t be harmed by the second death.

For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. (Rom 2:28-29 KJVR)

They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. Ye do the deeds of your father. Pergamum

2:12 “To the angel of the assembly in Pergamum write:

“He who has the sharp two-edged sword (1:16; 2:16;    Hebrews 4:12a says, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, )    says these things:

 2:13 “I know your works and where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. You hold firmly to my name, and didn’t deny my faith in the days of Antipas my witness, my faithful one, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. 2:14 But I have a few things against you, because you have there some who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to throw a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. 2:15 So you also have some who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans (2:6 & 2:15) likewise. 2:16 Repent therefore, or else I am coming to you quickly, and I will make war against them with the sword of my mouth. 2:17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. To him who overcomes, to him I will give of the hidden manna, (Manna is the Hebrew for "What is it?". See Exodus 11:7-9. supernatural food) and I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, which no one knows but he who receives it.

Thyatira

2:19 “I know your works, your love, faith, service, patient endurance, and that your last works are more than the first (2:5).  2:20 But I have this against you, that you tolerate your woman, Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. She teaches and seduces my servants to commit sexual immorality, and to eat things sacrificed to idols. 2:21 I gave her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her sexual immorality. 2:22 Behold, I will throw her into a bed, and those who commit adultery with her into great oppression, unless they repent of her works. 2:23 I will kill her children with Death, and all the assemblies will know that I am he who searches the minds and hearts. I will give to each one of you according to your deeds. 2:24 But to you I say, to the rest who are in Thyatira, as many as don’t have this teaching, who don’t know what some call ‘the deep things of Satan,’ to you I say, I am not putting any other burden on you. 2:25 Nevertheless, hold that which you have firmly until I come. 2:26 He who overcomes, and he who keeps my works to the end, to him I will give authority over the nations. 2:27 He will rule them with a rod of iron, shattering them like clay pots; (Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.  (Psa 2:9 KJV))  as I also have received of my Father: 2:28 and I will give him the morning star ( # Chr 57:4 In [Rev] 22.16 Christ himself is the morning star.). 2:29 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies.

Jazebel

And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshiped him. (1Ki 16:31 KJVR)

As recounted in 2Kings 9:1-10, God speaks through the prophet Elisha (Elijah's successor), and has one of his servants anoint Jehu as king in Jehoram's place, adding "thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master." Acting on this divine commission for revolution, Jehu kills King Jehoram as he attempts to flee in his war chariot. Jehu then confronts Jezebel in Jezreel and urges her eunuchs to kill the queen mother by throwing her out a window (defenestration). They comply, tossing her out the window and leaving her in the street to be eaten by dogs. Only Jezebel's skull, feet, and hands remained. Her ignominious end thus fulfills Elijah's prophecy 1Kings 21:22-26.

"2:26-27 Believers will share the rule of Christ. HE SHALL RULE THEM WITH A ROD (scepter)OF IRON. A reference to Christ's reign (see 12:5; 19:15; Ps. 2:8-9). Lit. "shepherd" (metaphor for "rule").

5:2 I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the book, and to break its seals?” 

5:3 No one in heaven above, or on the earth, or under the earth, was able to open the book, or to look in it. 

5:4 And I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open the book, or to look in it. 

5:5 One of the elders said to me, “Don’t weep. Behold, the Lion who is of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome; he who opens the book and its seven seals.”

The scroll is a Book of Destinies of the World. It is His-story of the future. Here is a world in which no one is worthy, all are so far away from God, that we require the mediation of Jesus. (For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; (1Ti 2:5 KJVR)

And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth,  (Rev 10:1-2 KJVR)

Note:  No one in the Universe, not even angels, were worthy to open the scroll.  Consider:   "Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into."  (1Pe 1:12 KJVR)

And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. (Rev 6:14 KJVR)

A roll was made of papyrus. the sheets were about 10x8 inches. They were joined horizontally. Writing was in columns three inches and had margins of about two and a half inches at the top and bottom, and  three-quarters of an inch between the columns. The roll commonly had a wooden roller at each end. It was held in the left hand, unrolled with the right, and, as the reading went on, the part in the left hand was rolled up again. We may get some idea of the dimensions of a roll from the following statistics. Second and Third John, Jude and Philemon would occupy one sheet of papyrus; Romans would require a roll 11 1/2 feet long; Mark, 19 feet; John, 23 1/2 feet; Matthew, 30 feet; Luke and Acts, 32 feet. Although expense would mean nothing in Heaven, it may illustrate so much needed to be written that both sides were used.  The back side was the  verso, called an opisthograph. The front was the recto.

5:6 I saw in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, having seven horns, and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth. 5:7 Then he came, and he took it out of the right hand of him who sat on the throne. 5:8 Now when he had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 5:9 They sang a new song, saying,

Prayers of the Saints

And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.   (Rev 6:9-11 KJVR)

And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. 6:12 I saw when he opened the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end. For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.   (Jer 4:23-28 KJVR) No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse. And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.   (Rev 9:20-21 KJVR) And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory. 144,000 Sealed before Jesus' Wrath (6:16)

God seals His servants (7:3) contra The Beast marks his worshippers (13:16). God's people are protected as they were in Egypt (Ex 8:22ff, 9:4ff, 10:23,  The Two Witnesses 11:5ff, The 70 Missionaries, Lk 10:18f.  It is suggested that the sealing is for the purpose of witnessing.

Labor not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.  (Joh 6:27 KJVR)

And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:   (Rom 4:11 KJVR)

Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.   (2Co 1:22 KJVR)

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise,   (Eph 1:13 KJVR)

And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.  (Rev 9:4 KJVR)

And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.  (Exo 12:13 KJVR)  

(7:4)  "I heard":  There may be a relationship in 'hearing' and 'seeing'.  What John hears may interpret what he is going to see. The (7:4) 'heard' might connect to (7:9) 'looked.'  I'll express it this way, "I heard a roar and turned to see the car approaching." J.P.M. Sweet writes that  John 'heard' the counting of the sealed believers (the theological truth) and then john  'saw' the countless multitude (the outward reality).  See page 146-147 of his 'Revelation.'  He also says, "John seems to share Paul's view that this 'seed' is not the Jewish nation, or the faithful remnant of it, but Christ and those who belong to Him (Gal 3:16&29; Rev 14:1-5).  So there are not two different groups, but the one group seen under two aspects: Its ultimate empirical extension (cf. 21:24-22:5), and the divine purpose which marked it out."

Salvation is from the Jews (144,000)  and toward all the nations (multitude):

You people worship what you do not understand; we worship what we understand, because salvation is from the Jews.  (Joh 4:22 NAB-A)

Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers: And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name. And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people. Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover. The snorting of his horses was heard from Dan: the whole land trembled at the sound of the neighing of his strong ones; for they are come, and have devoured the land, and all that is in it; the city, and those that dwell therein.   (Jer 8:16 KJVR)

Blessing, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power, and might, [another septet] be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

7:13 One of the elders answered, saying to me, “These who are arrayed in white robes, who are they, and from where did they come?”

7:14 I told him, “My lord, you know.”

He said to me, “These are those who came out of the great tribulation. They washed their robes, and made them white in the Lamb’s blood.

7:15 Therefore they are before the throne of God, they serve him day and night in his temple. He who sits on the throne will spread his tabernacle over them. 7:16 They will never be hungry, neither thirsty any more; neither will the sun beat on them, nor any heat; 7:17 for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne shepherds them, and leads them to springs of waters of life. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

7th Seal The 7 Trumpets and 7 Vials

And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies. (Num 10:9 KJVR)

The last three trumpets are knows as 'Woes.'

A shofar is an ancient Jewish liturgical instrument. A natural trumpet, it is usually made from a ram's horn.

8:1 When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 8:2 I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them. 

8:3 Another angel came and stood over the altar, having a golden censer. Much incense was given to him, that he should add it to the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar which was before the throne. 8:4 The smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, went up before God out of the angel’s hand. 8:5 The angel took the censer, and he filled it with the fire of the altar, and threw it on the earth. There followed thunders, sounds, lightnings, and an earthquake.

8:6 The seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. 8:7 The first sounded,

and there followed hail and fire, mixed with blood, and they were thrown to the earth. One third of the earth was burnt up, and one third of the trees were burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

8:8 The second angel sounded,

and something like a great burning mountain was thrown into the sea. One third of the sea became blood, 8:9 and one third of the living creatures which were in the sea died. One third of the ships were destroyed.

8:10 The third angel sounded,

and a great star fell from the sky, burning like a torch, and it fell on one third of the rivers, and on the springs of the waters. 8:11 The name of the star is called “Wormwood.” One third of the waters became wormwood. Many people died from the waters, because they were made bitter.

8:12 The fourth angel sounded,

and one third of the sun was struck, and one third of the moon, and one third of the stars; so that one third of them would be darkened, and the day wouldn’t shine for one third of it, and the night in the same way. 8:13 I saw, and I heard an eagle ( 8:13 some mss read "angel" instead of "eagle"), flying in mid heaven (zenith where sun is at mid-day), saying with a loud voice, “Woe! Woe! Woe for those who dwell on the earth, because of the other voices of the trumpets of the three angels, who are yet to sound!”

(8:1) silence,   half an hour = ?   Psalmody and such stop in anticipation of the prayers.

(8:2,6) 7 Angels w/ Trumpets.  They were call the Angels of the Presence and had names, Uriel, Raphael, Raguel, Michael, Sariel, Gabriel and Remiel  according to the Book of Tobit. (Tobit 12:15)

Some feel Rev. 8:2 should come just before v. 7

(8:3) golden alter.  It is the alter of incense and not the alter of burnt offering. It stood before the Holy Place in the Temple, Lev 16:12, Nu 16:46,  made of gold,  18 inches square and 3 feet high.  Each corner had a horn perhaps representing the power or influence of prayer.  It was hollow and covered with a gold plate and had a little railing.   See also  Rev. 6:9;  9:13;  14:18;  16:17

8:5   it is the prayers/censer that are coming to fruition and returning to earth in wrath. Consider back to:   "And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?"  (Rev 6:10 KJVR)  "Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people: for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land, and to his people."  (Deu 32:43 KJVR)  The prayers of the saints is a dynamic behind the visitation. The prayers avail to bring vengeance and vindication.

And he spoke unto the man clothed with linen, and said, Go in between the wheels, even under the cherub, and fill thine hand with coals of fire from between the cherubims, and scatter them over the city. And he went in in my sight.  (Eze 10:2 KJVR)

And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled. And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount. And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.  (Exo 19:16-19 KJVR)

And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field."  (Exo 9:23-25 KJVR)

Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come. Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God? The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered. How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate. O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.  (Joe 1:15-19 KJVR)

The word in question is the Greek word 'apsinthos.' It simply means bitter. It is derived from a bitter herb (wormwood)that was used to cure intestinal worms. The word is only found in this verse of the Bible (twice). It is mentioned seven times in the Old Testament where it represents sorrow and bitter judgment (Deut. 29:18; Prov. 5:4; Jer. 9:15; 23:15; Lam. 3:15, 19; Amos 5:7).

9:17 Thus I saw the horses in the vision, and those who sat on them, having breastplates of fiery red, hyacinth blue, and sulfur yellow; and the heads of lions. Out of their mouths proceed fire, smoke, and sulfur. 9:18 By these three plagues were one third of mankind killed: by the fire, the smoke, and the sulfur, which proceeded out of their mouths. 9:19 For the power of the horses is in their mouths, and in their tails. For their tails are like serpents, and have heads, and with them they harm. 

9:20 The rest of mankind, who were not killed with these plagues, didn’t repent of the works of their hands, that they wouldn’t worship demons, and the idols of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood; which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk. 9:21 They didn’t repent of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their sexual immorality, nor of their thefts.

(9:14) '4 Angels' reminds us of the 4 Angels of the Winds in 7:1.

1Co 16:22 KJVR If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema [ accursed ]  Maranatha.

But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.  (Gal 1:8-9 KJVR)

And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.   (2Th 2:10-12 KJVR)

(9:15) Had been held ready for a specific time. Minutely and immutably prepared in advance for their service.

And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;  (Rev 5:11 KJVR)

A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.   (Dan 7:10 KJVR)

The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels: the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy place.   (Psa 68:17 KJVR)

(9:17) These colors compare with the 2, 3, 4th horsemen, which might indicate the 1st (white) is of a different kind than those who cause disaster.

(9:20) demons and idols

Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say. The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread. Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar? What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing? But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?   (1Co 10:14-22 KJVR)

They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger. They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not. Of the Rock that begot thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee. And when the LORD saw it, he abhorred them, because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters. And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith. They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.   (Deu 32:16-21 KJVR)

(9:21) Murders, etc...

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.  (Rev 21:8 KJVR)

For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.   (Rev 22:15 KJVR)

And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshiped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.   (Mat 15:22-28 KJVR)

But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.   (Exo 11:7 KJVR)

And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.   (1Sa 17:43 KJVR)

For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.   (Psa 22:16 KJVR)

His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber. Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.   (Isa 56:10-11 KJVR)

Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision. For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.  (Php 3:2-3 KJVR)

The word for "sorceries" (pharmakeia) also implies the use of potions, poisons, and drugs

Consider effects of nuclear war or ecological arrogance. John wars believers about the spiritual nature and destiny of the world to which they might be tempted to conform.
